Michele L. Dormaier

Hello
I am on the faculty of Louisiana Tech University as the Resident Costume Designer, where I also teach classes in Costume Design and Technology, Stage Makeup, Hair and Wig Styling. In addition I manage the Costume Studio and supervise and mentor both undergraduate and graduate students. I have an MFA in Costume Design from the University of Idaho, and an MA in Costume Design/Technology and Arts Administration/Management from Louisiana Tech University.

My Story
Besides designing costumes I pursue research and scholarly writing concerning costuming, and have presented my work at national and international conferences.
I'm passionate about the Arts and Humanities, especially the Performing Arts and Fine Arts. I find art and beauty all around me, and incorporate it into my designs. I love to explore new ideas and concepts for a fresh approach to design. My work is grounded in analysis of the script first, along with research. I dig into the characters, their lives and environment, and look for how I can add depth and detail for the performers to use when they bring the role to life.
I also have an extensive background in women's alterations, couture sewing techniques, and fine tailoring, as well as the usual technology skills of patterning, cutting, draping, and stitching.

I hope you have an amazing day filled with joy, wonder, and beauty!
Thanks for stopping by!
Peace and blessings,
Michele
